What is BOTOX® Cosmetic?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is the first and only FDA-approved prescription product that temporarily improves the appearance of both moderate to severe frown lines between the brows and moderate to severe crow’s feet in adults.
Wrinkles result from a combination of many factors. It’s not just about cellular changes, collagen depletion, or damage caused by free radicals. When you frown or concentrate, the muscles between your brows contract, causing your skin to furrow and fold. And when you squint, the muscles around your eyes contract and cause crow’s feet.
BOTOX® Cosmetic works beneath the skin’s surface and targets the underlying muscle activity that causes frown lines and crow’s feet to form over time.
Your doctor will inject BOTOX® Cosmetic into the muscles that cause frown lines and crow’s feet lines, temporarily reducing the activity of those muscles. The result is a reduction in the appearance of those lines.
Will BOTOX® Cosmetic make me look fake?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a technique-sensitive treatment. You should not lose the ability to show expression when you are treated by someone who is licensed, trained and a medical expert in facial anatomy. It is important to talk to your provider about the results you want from treatment as well as any precautions and risks from the procedure.
DID YOU KNOW?
According to the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, about 10 percent of all cosmetic procedures performed in the United States in 2012 were on men — that is almost 1 million cosmetic procedures. The number of cosmetic procedures for men increased by 106% since 1997.1
BOTOX® COSMETIC IS ALSO FOR MEN
BOTOX® Cosmetic has also been clinically evaluated in male patients. In clinical studies for moderate to severe frown lines, 17.5% of patients treated with BOTOX® Cosmetic were men. In the clinical studies for moderate to severe crow’s feet, male patients comprised approximately 10% of patients treated with BOTOX® Cosmetic.2

BOTOX® Cosmetic is not a permanent treatment. If you discontinue treatment, the moderate to severe frown lines and crow’s feet will gradually return to look like they did before treatment.
Injecting BOTOX® Cosmetic more frequently than every 3 months has not been studied. Talk to your doctor about a treatment schedule that is right for you.
What were common side effects seen in clinical studies? Three percent of patients experienced eyelid drooping in the frown lines studies and 1% of patients experienced eyelid swelling in the crow’s feet studies. Other possible side effects include: dry mouth; discomfort or pain at the injection site; tiredness; headache; neck pain; eye problems: double vision, blurred vision, decreased eyesight and dry eyes; and allergic reactions. These are not all of the possible serious side effects of BOTOX®Cosmetic.
